Today was one of the artists selling their work at the Kirkland Art Center in Clinton, NY. I met many new people and it was great to chat about art. Two paintings found new homes. This is the first year that the KAC has participated in the Clinton’s Shopper’s Stroll. I will be there again tomorrow from 10 – 4pm.
I have returned after a week of plein air painting in Quechee, Vermont. The colors of the trees were close to peak, but still beautiful. It was rainy, cold, and foggy on several days of painting… a nice challenge! I drove up to Chelsea, Vermont to scout old barns and I found Moxely Road. It’s a one-lane road and as I looked in my rear view mirror I spotted this view. So, I turned around and set up to paint. The fog eventually lifted, but I already captured the mist in my painting by that time. I returned a few days later to paint where Moxley Road went over the First Branch of the White River. You can see the painting in my Portfolio.
I will be one of twenty artists participating in the Dowling Art Center’s Holiday Show and Sale on November 3rd and 4th. This will be the first chance season in the CNY area to purchase amazing original art and fine craft from 20 of the area’s top artists. This is a one-weekend-only event and a great opportunity to talk to the artists and find that special piece of artwork, jewelry, or handmade bag. Location: Dowling Art Center, 1632 Hawley Ave., Syracuse, NY, 13208, off of Teall Ave. www.dowlingartcenter.com
I’ve had a very busy painting summer. I went to various plein air festivals and found new places in New York state to paint. Keeseville and Morristown were new events for me and I enjoyed painting in these locations. I have posted many of my paintings from this summer. Now that fall officially arrives tomorrow, I look forward to the trees changing colors and painting is cooler weather!
I am pleased to announce that the painting above, Lake Ontario Sunset, has been accepted into the 2018 Northeast National Pastel Exhibition at View in Old Forge, NY. My pastel painting will be on exhibition at the arts center from June 23rd to July 29th.
On my easel today is another sunset painting that I created using soft pastels. It’s almost complete. I think the most challenging part was the cloud formation in front of the setting sun. You can find this image and others in my portfolio on the website.
